Ruth Stryker Smith, 90, of Angola died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at Lakeland Nursing Center in Angola. Mrs. Smith was a volunteer tax preparer for the IRS. She taught English in the public schools in Grand Rapids and South Lyons, Mich., and at Tri-State University in Angola. Mrs. Smith served as a librarian at Tri-State University in her later years. She graduated from Creston High School in Grand Rapids, Mich., and from Hope College of Holland, Mich. Mrs. Smith also volunteered for the Red Cross in World War II. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Angola. She was born Jan. 16, 1920, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to John O. and Ella (Dykhuis) Stryker. She married James Quentin Smith Feb. 23, 1946. Surviving are two sons, Q. Douglas and Sherry Smith of Fort Wayne and Jeffery A. Smith of Angola. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 19, 2000, and three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Weicht Funeral Home in Angola with Pastor Deborah Davis officiating.

Jeff and Doug I feel as though I have lost my "other" mother. "Mrs. Smith"...... I remember saying that so many times when I came next door. I think that I respected your mother as much as any other person I have ever known. Nothing but fond memories. Thinking of you.... Always, Mark
