Howard A. Sheets Sr., 69, of Orland, Indiana died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at his sons home in Kendallville, Indiana. He retired from BAE formerly known as General Electric of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mr. Sheets was born on December 16, 1943 to William C. and Ethal (Gordon) Sheets in Virginia. He was a veteran in the US National Guard and a member of the Orland American Legion Post 423. He is survived by his three sons Howard A. Sheets Jr. of Kendallville, Indiana; Trampas A. Sheets of Orland, Indiana; Dustin M. Sheets of St. Charles, Missouri; one daughter Melinda K. Yontz of Pleasant Lake, Indiana; three brothers Melvin Sheets, Dale Sheets and Harold Sheets; four sisters Evelyn Wortham, Barb Clemens, Donna Rowe and Beverly Gordon; seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers William Sheets and Fred Sheets; two sisters Virginia Lions and Norine Sheets. Services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Weicht Funeral Home, Angola, Indiana with Pastor Jon Boyanowski officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday, September 23, 2013 at the funeral home. Military Graveside Services will be conducted by the Orland American Legion. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Indiana.

I came to know Howard after moving to Orland. He was always making people smile! I remember many good and happy times watching Howard shoot pool and enjoying life. He will be greatly missed! My heart felt sympathy's go out to Howard's family. Sincerely, Michelle M. Snyder

I am really going to miss his grin, his laugh and how happy he always was. He was mine and Mindi's "Papa Smurf" and we had so much fun growing up. So many laughs and good times. Im going to really miss you Papa Smurf!!! Love forever, your Smurfette, Dena.

Howard was one of the best friends I have ever had. All the laughts and tricks we always pulled on one another. Both of us always swore we were a good kid till we met the other. fought over who had the cutes feet..Howard I will miss you so much. Even if i moved far away, you were always in my heart and thoughts. RIP
