ANGOLA

Allen E. Lefevre, 77, of Lake Gage, Indiana died at his home Saturday evening February 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

A long-time lake quality activist, he was born to Harold and Mabel (Harper) Lefevre in Muncie on September 11, 1938.  He lettered in two sports for the Dunkirk, Indiana High School Speedcats.  He married the love of his life, Betty Barnett, from nearby Redkey, Indiana on November 30, 1958.

Allen graduated with a degree in accounting from Ball State University in 1960 and immediately began his career with Dana Corporation.  In a career that spanned nearly forty years, he served in numerous capacities and in several states for the company.  He retired in 1999 and spent his summers at Lake Gage and winters in Cleveland, Tennessee.

He served as President of the Lake Gage-Lime Lake Association for 11 years and led fights to protect water quality, restore wetlands and to prevent a contained area feeding operation from being built near the lakes.  He was especially proud of his efforts to support the Orland Volunteer Fire and Rescue.

Allen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Lefevre of Angola; sons Perry (Judy) Lefevre of Toledo, Ohio and Brian Lefevre of Gulfport, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Sydney (Lee) Lefevre, Rachael Lefevre and Matthew (Zoe) Lefevre.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane Lefevre and sister Regina Jones.

A funeral service will be at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Weicht Funeral Home, Angola, Indiana.

Visitation will be from 10-12 Noon on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Private family burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Indiana at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be donated to the Orland Volunteer Fire and Rescue or the Steuben County Lakes Council.

We were blessed to have had Allen at the helm of the Association for so many years. His efforts were for the most part quietly carried on in the background with little awareness by many of the lake residents of all he did for our lake. His efforts and guidance on protecting our lake from the CAFO threat allowed me to better understand all that he did. We will miss you Allen!

Allen gave so much but most of all, I appreciate his energy, drive, and commitment to the Lake Association and the well-being of our Steuben Lakes more generally. It's a legacy we can all aspire to and his presence will be sorely missed.

Allen was a wonderful person, a very faithful member and President of the Lake Gage Association and the Steuben County Lake Council. He was especially active at fighting two large factory farms that threatened our area lakes in the last ten years. He will be sincerely missed. Bob and Barbara Hedges

I, and my son Chris, who summers at Lake Gage, were very sorry to learn of Allen's death. We appreciate him very much for his tireless efforts on behalf of water quality in Steuben County. Speaking personally, I enjoyed his and Betty's friendship toward Ruth and myself while we lived at Gage. My deepest condolences are extended to Betty and I look forward to seeing her when the weather warms up and I am able to travel. In the meantime, Betty and her family will be in my prayers.
