HUDSON

Barbara Ann Sams, 86, of Hudson, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2017 at Lakeland Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Angola, Indiana.

She was born on May 22, 1930 in Steuben County, Indiana to Wymond J. Sr. and Pauline (Shumaker) Hoyer.  She graduated from Salem Center High School, Steuben County, Indiana.

Barbara married Gordon M. Sams on September 1, 1951.

She was the office manager at Steuben County A.S.C.  She had also worked at Steckleys Mill and Hatchery, Orland, Indiana; Co-Owner of Redwood Lanes and Lounge, Angola, Indiana and worked at the Steuben County Rest Home.

She was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Steuben County, Indiana and the Orland American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving is her son, David (Rhonda) Sams of Hudson, Indiana; granddaughter, Amy Marie Sams of Hudson, Indiana; grandson, Adam (Brittany) Sams of Kendallville, Indiana; two great-grandchildren Caydren Gordon Sams and Dawsyn Ruth Sams; brother, Rex L. Hoyer of Florida; several nieces and nephews and her companion, Al Shaffer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon M. Sams on August 4, 1997; brother, Wymond J. Hoyer Jr. (1998); two sisters, Patricia Perkins (1999) and Dorothy McCormick (2001).

Visitation will be from 4-7 PM, Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Weicht Funeral Home, Angola, Indiana.

Memorial Services will be at 11:00 AM, on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Steuben County, Indiana with Pastor Tamra Gerber officiating.  Visitation will be from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be in Flint Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.

Memorials may be made in Barbara’s memory to Mount Zion United Methodist Church.

We were shocked to hear of Aunt Barb's passing. We will miss her smile and wit, as she was a very special person. David and Al, our prayers are with the whole family. Sorry, but we are out of state and are unable to attend Barb's funeral.
