Jim Sanborn, husband, father and businessman, age 72, passed away on Sunday, February 4,
2024, at Dupont Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born in Fort Wayne on September 12, 1951, to Marilyn (Curdes) and Phillip Joseph Sanborn,
Jim was raised in Fort Wayne and Crooked Lake, Angola, Indiana, as the third child among 8
siblings. He attended parochial schools and graduated from Bishop Dwenger High School in
1970 and received a degree in Business from Vincennes University.
Jim was a partner in Sanborn Appliances in Angola, Indiana.
He married the love of his life, Joan Vermillion on January 21, 1984.
Jim was known for his quiet sense of humor and love of music. He was a friend to all and a kind man.
Active in the Angola community, he served on the Angola Housing Authority Board and was a member of the
Jaycees.
Jim is survived by Joan Sanborn, his loving wife of 40 years; daughter Carly Sanborn; son
Barret (Rochelle) Sanborn and two grandchildren, Jonathan and Jack of Angola, Indiana. Also
surviving are his siblings, all of whom live in Angola except where noted: Anita Sanborn; PE
“Sandy” (Jenny) Sanborn, Nancy (Gary) Shoup, Tom (Lori) Sanborn of Fremont, IN, Mark
Sanborn, David (Debbie) Sanborn and Kate (Joe) Sanborn-Sweeney.
The family was blessed to have time with Jim and to ease him on his journey home. Thank you
to all who have sent prayers and condolences.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:30 am on Monday, February 26, 2024, at St. Anthony’s Catholic
Church, Angola, Indiana, followed by a Mass at 11:30 am.
