Judge Allen Neal Wheat, 74, of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Allen was born on December 10, 1949, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ruel S. and Lorene Z. (Ford) Wheat. He graduated in 1967 from George Washington High School, Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated with honors from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business with a bachelor’s degree and graduated with honors from Indiana University’s School of Law in Indianapolis, Indiana with his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.
During his time in law school, Allen met his future bride, Latriealle Eddy, and on October 15,1977 they were united in marriage.
Allen was proud to serve his country in the United States Army from 1971 to 1973.
He worked for 19 years in the private practice of law. He also served briefly as a Steuben County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. Allen became Circuit Court Judge for Steuben County in 1995 and remained Circuit Court Judge until his passing.
Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Latriealle Wheat of Angola, Indiana, sons, Benjamin Wheat of Zionsville, Indiana and Andrew (Emily) Wheat of Westfield, Indiana and four beloved grandchildren, Slade, Sloane, Sullivan and Piper. Also surviving are his brother, Joe (Brenda) Wheat of Danville, Indiana, a niece, Kathryn (Gary) Jewell of Indianapolis, Indiana, a nephew, Christopher (Sheriss) Wheat of Danville, Indiana and 7 great nieces and nephews.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Pleasant View Church of Christ in Angola, Indiana.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2024, prior to the service at the church.
Burial with Military Honors by the United State Army Honor Guard and the Angola American Legion Honor Guard will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Indiana immediately following the funeral services.
