The Fans in the Stands… All of you who have touched his Life!!

Drew was the 24th person in the world diagnosed with a rare disease called a Glucose Transporter Protein Deficiency. At that time, he was one of the oldest and was able to help the researchers through participating in many clinical trials and studies.  He looked forward to seeing and talking to everyone from around the world at our family conferences where exchange of information was given but friendships were made that has such a lasting bond.  Our GLUT 1 family is so strong and will continue to work to find a cure for Glut1. Drew will continue to help in the years to come by having donated tissue to the researchers to continue this effort.

Drew was so proud of helping his high school basketball, baseball, and tennis teams earning a varsity letter.  After high school he went on to be the manager of the Trine Men’s Basketball team for 14 years working with Coach Miller.  He worked at the Caruso family Restaurant for 17 years and was a volunteer at the Steuben County Library for 14 years until Covid.  He also found time to work at the Angola Heritage club.  Drew also volunteered at Ryan Park Elementary School for what started out with one teacher helping with math and spelling flash cards and ended up with a two-day commitment and over 7 different teachers. He loved when he was out and about and kids would come and say hi “Mr. Drew”. He cherished the thank you notes, birthday cards, and posters the kids made for him.

He had such a fulfilling and wonderful life. He loved watching the Angola girls Basketball teams and Volleyball teams coached by Lloy Ball. Parents of the girls would pick him up and take him to the games if his parents could not.  Trine Basketball both Men’s and Women’s and Trine Softball would enjoy having him in the stands.  Drew loved Sports so much that he was known as the sports computer and you could ask him anything and he knew the latest stats.  Trine, Michigan, Notre Dame, Indiana, Michigan State, and Nebraska were his favorite teams.
