Barbara R. Caruso, 83, of Fremont, Indiana, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn, Indiana.
Born February 23, 1943, in Erie, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Jack and LaVern (Wick) Wright.
Barbara married the love of her life, Joseph C. Caruso, Jr., on January 21, 1961. Together they raised their family in Fort Wayne, Indiana until 1976 when they moved to Angola and purchased Doc Caccamo’s Restaurant, which they renamed Caruso’s Restaurant.
Barbara was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Angola, Indiana.
Surviving are her children, Liat (John) Peters of Angola, Indiana, Lisa (Todd) Aldrich of Fremont, Indiana, Dan (Lori) Caruso of Angola, Indiana and Gina (Scott) Hirschy of Angola, Indiana; 8 beloved grandchildren
J. Joseph Peters, Maggie (Angie) Peters, Sarah (Sean) Renner, Anna (Michael) Shaw, Natalie (Michael) Barney, Rachel (Luke) Mungovan Caruso, Isaac (Katie) Hirschy and Emma (Sam) Verdin and 8 precious great-grandchildren Blaze Peters, Namaste Peters, Kai Peters, Keanu Peters, Mia Barney, Lena Renner, Vera Renner and Wesley Shaw. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Alice Wright of Donalsonville, Georgia and her brother-in-law, Dane Tubergen of Estero, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Wright and LaVern Wright Hanley, her loving husband of 63 years, Joseph C. Caruso, Jr. on August 20, 2024, and her siblings, Deborah Tubergen and Larry Wright.
Visitation will be from 4:30-7 PM, June 15, 2026, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Angola, Indiana.
Visitation will also be from 10-11 AM preceding the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on June 16, 2026, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Father Osman officiating.
Final resting place will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Waterloo, Indiana.
