Barbara Jane (Brown) Tatman, 72, of Whiteland (formerly of Angola) passed away on February 2, 2021 at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital following an extended illness. She was born on September 25, 1948 in Coldwater, MI to Gerald Brown and Betty (Nisonger) Brown (Zimmerman).
Barb is a graduate of Angola High School (1966) and earned her Bachelor's Degree from Ball State University (1970). She taught Home Economics at Mentone High School before working at various Hallmark stores, WIC and Well Child Clinic in Angola for several years before working for than fifteen years as a retail clerk at area Hallmark stores.
Barb had a beautiful soprano voice and loved to sing in the choir at the Angola United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful cook who had exceptional baking skills as evidenced by the blue ribbon her apple pie earned at the Steuben County Fair one year! She was a voracious reader and also enjoyed creating counted cross stitch projects. Above all, though, Barb loved to care for her friends and family. Her thoughtful cards and letters will be missed by all who knew her.
Barb is survived by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, John Tatman; two daughters; Stephanie (Joel) Houseman of Villa Park, IL and Karissa (Luke) Davison of Merrillville; two sisters, Carol (Cliff) Harvey of Kokomo and Cyndy (Terry) Butz of Pleasant Lake; one step-sister, Carol (Wayne) Klink of Pleasant Lake; a half-brother, Jeff (Nancy) Zimmerman of Angola; and three grandchildren, Jacob, Magdalene and Grace. She will be missed by many other extended family members and close friends who she dearly loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kendra Jo; and her step-mother, Darlene Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the organization of your choice that is committed to research and treatment of Lupus, IBS, heart disease, or Alzheimer's.
