Byron Richard "Dick" McClure

August 31, 1937 ~ February 20, 2010 (age 72)


Byron Richard "Dick" McClure, age 72, died on February 20, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Grelton, Ohio on August 31, 1937 to the late John Elmer and Margaret McClure. He graduated from Defiance College where he performed in the drama club and excelled on the basketball team ("Dead Eye Dick"). He initially graduated with a bachelor's degree in education and then later received his Elementary and Secondary Principal Certificates from Bowling Green State University. He was employed at Pulaski Elementary School as a Principal and later at Bard's Manufacturing as a Master Production Scheduler. In 1958, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Mae Kohls in Glandorf, Ohio. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this past summer. Dick is survived by his wife, Evelyn, in Fremont, Indiana, their oldest son Jeff and Darlene McClure of Rocklin, CA; daughter Corinne and Greg Liebnau of Lambertville, MI; daughter Antoinette (Toni) and Rob Thorp of Cincinnati, Ohio; son Jon McClure of Toledo, Ohio and youngest son Matt and Christina McClure of Maumee, Ohio; and nine grandchildren: Alex, Brittnay, Tyler, twins Zach and Taylor, Nicole, Cate, Eva and Liz. His sister Alma McKinnon lives in Defiance, Ohio, sister Joan Groll lives in Lexington, Ohio, and sister Carolyn Willford lives in Malinta, Ohio. He was also preceded in death by brothers Walter "Mac" McClure, Roy McClure, John McClure, Paul McClure and sisters Gretchen Shroyer, Margaret "Mickey" Crawford, and Pauline Thompson. Dick was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Angola, Indiana where he participated as a Eucharistic minister. Throughout his life, he enjoyed trapping, fishing, golfing, camping, praying the rosary, coin collecting and reading.
