Carol Carpenter Obituary

Carol Elizabeth Lash Carpenter, 91, passed away on March 18, 2025, at her home with her loved ones by her side.

Carol was born on February 12, 1934, in Butler, South Dakota to James and Emma (Woodard) Lash.  Carol was 6 months old when the family moved to Hudson, Indiana.  She graduated from Pleasant Lake High School in 1952.  Carol continued her education by attending Warner Beauty College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, receiving a certificate in cosmetology.  She worked at the Rainbow in Angola, Indiana for Lucille Whitman, modeling hair and as a hairdresser.

Carol married Veryl Avon Carpenter on November 24, 1956, at the United Brethren Church, Hudson, Indiana.

She was an at-home mom until her three children were grown.  She then worked at JC Penney in Angola, retiring after 10 years.

Carol was a member of the Angola Moose Lodge for 68 years, served as a Commissioner for the Angola Housing authority for 20 years, a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ since 1956, Treasurer for the Women’s Fellowship at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, an assistant Girl Scout Leader, and a 35-year charter member of “Kum As You Are” Home Extension Club.  Carol was involved in the Steuben County Democratic Party.  She volunteered and worked the polls for 30 years.

Carol is survived by her husband of 68 years, Veryl Avon Carpenter of Angola, Indiana; three children, Mark (Julia) Carpenter of Leo, Indiana, Cheri Carpenter of Angola, Indiana and Terri (David Worthington) Carpenter of North Fort Myers, Florida; five grandchildren, Matthew Garvin of Angola, Indiana, Cassidy (Andrew) Schalk of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Breanna Carpenter of Cincinnati, Ohio, Isabella Gieck of California and Beau Carpenter of Leo, Indiana; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Ione J. Lash, Rhoda E. Hedglin, Lorene M. DePew, Lavonne I. Foulk and Elaine L. Hartman and four brothers, Otis L. Lash, Ormond R. “Slim’ Lash, Earl J. Lash and Gerald R. “Gabby” Lash.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, May 2, 2025, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 314 W. Maumee Street, Angola, Indiana 46703.  Rev. Nikki Shaw will be officiating.

Visitation will be from 10-11 AM, Friday, May 2, 2025, prior to the service at the church.

Final resting place will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Indiana.
