Catherine “Kay” (Turner) Swanson, 88, of Hamilton, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, Indiana.
Kay was born on September 5, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois to James and Mary (Hall) Turner. She graduated from Loretto Academy of the Immaculate Conception High School in 1954.
Kay married Arne C. Swanson on January 22, 1955.
Surviving are her children, Keith (Linda) Swanson of Old Tappan, New Jersey and Tierra Verde, Florida, Roy Swanson of Sarasota, Florida and Mark (Patti) Swanson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Five beloved grandchildren, Bryan (Jennifer) Swanson, Derek Swanson, Corinne (Scott) McClanahan, Daniel Swanson and Michael (Jules) Swanson and their six beautiful great-grandchildren, Lily McClanahan, Jordan Swanson, Derek “Bear” Swanson, Lincoln Swanson, Chloe Swanson, and Felicity Swanson.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years Arne C. Swanson who passed on March 17, 2019, and her parents, seven siblings and one surviving sibling George Turner.
Kay was a member of numerous organizations, the Elks of Angola, Angola Chamber of Commerce, Lake James Golf Club, Isla del Sol Yacht and Country Club, Hamilton Fish and Game Club, Cold Springs Women’s Golf League, organizer for the Angola and Hamilton 4th of July Parades. She was an Ambassador for Angola Ford, the automobile dealership her husband Arne co-owned. She was known for her Labor Day Parties at the Lake. She was high spirited, passionate and spunky, that was Kay, through and through. She left a mark on everyone she met; with a presence you couldn’t ignore. Kay had a remarkable memory, holding on to names, faces, directions and stories from throughout her life, all the way to the end. Her spark, her wisdom and her heart will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
