Claude Edward Davis M.D., 99, of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025, at his home.
Claude was born on June 14, 1926, in New Albany, Indiana to Claude O. and Eva Mae (Brown) Davis. He graduated from New Albany High School in 1944. He graduated from the University of Louisville in September of 1947 and received his Doctor of Medicine in 1951. Claude completed his internship at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana.
Claude married Mary J. Grogg on January 26, 1966.
He was a member of the American Society of Surgeons since 1961 and was on the American Board of Surgery in 1969. He also was on the MSD Board of Directors in Steuben County and had been a Deputy on the Angola Police Department.
Claude was proud to serve in the United States Army during WWII and was a Purple Heart Recipient.
Claude was known to many as Doc Davis, an impeccable surgeon who saved the lives of many. He was a noble veteran, a witty and smart mechanic, and even a pilot. He found a talent and passion for all that he tried. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a kind grandfather, a respected great grandfather and to most everyone he met the true definition of a good and honest man. Claude was constant and steady in every storm and was a source of wisdom and carried a quiet love.
Surviving is loving wife of 59 years, Mary J. Davis of Angola, Indiana; children, Claudia Ann Howard of Clarksville, Indiana, Sandra (Al) Cather of Fremont, Indiana, Patricia (Brian) Glick of Angola, Indiana, Jackie VanRooyen of Fremont, Indiana, Lisa (Jeff) Burlingame of Angola, Indiana and Mitch (Maria) Davis of Angola, Indiana; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his sister, Elizabeth Davis McGee of Jackson, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, children, Steven Davis and Kimberly Wright and his sister, Elaine Davis Fulkerson.
Following Claude’s wishes there will be no services.
