Dennis Liechty Obituary

Dennis Alan Liechty, 75, of Angola, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born to Wildas and Dorothy Liechty in Berne, Indiana on July 3, 1946.

Foremost, he loved Jesus and his family, but he was known for his love of “really good” red sauce, Crooked Lake, golf, the Florida beach, and anything Purdue.

Dennis is survived by his wife Mary, his siblings Evan Liechty and Claudia Dyment, his daughters Allison Rankin and Brenda Taylor, his son-in-law Kyle Taylor, and his grandchildren Ella, Hope and Bryce Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents Wildas and Dorothy Liechty, and his siblings Nolan Liechty and Connie Mitchel.

He grew up playing sports and enjoying everything a small town had to offer.  He attended IPFW and Purdue University and worked as a Sales Engineer for Texas Instruments until his retirement in 2002. He and his wife Mary were married on August 21, 1971, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Dennis and Mary lived in Fort Wayne until 2016, when Dennis and Mary fulfilled his lifetime wish of living at their lake home in Angola, Indiana. Despite moving, they maintained relationships with lifelong friends from Fort Wayne, their church and with Couples Club, a university group where they first met.

While living in Fort Wayne, Dennis and Mary were active long-term members of Crescent Avenue Church. Dennis was a devoted father, helping with Algebra homework and playing kickball in Pine Mills Court. He attended every home and away game or meet, traveling far and wide to support his daughters in high school sports and later at college track and cross country meets. He was proud that his business skills were passed on to his daughter Allison.

In later years, he hosted his grandchildren at the lake and enjoyed following them to all their school and sporting events. Dennis also enjoyed hosting his siblings and friends with their families at Crooked Lake. He was always eager to take everyone on a boat ride, tubing, or on the jet ski.

He spent hours tinkering with his recipes, working on projects in the garage, and building things for his home and for family. He also enjoyed weekly rounds of golf with his former work colleagues and visits to his grand-dog Lucy.

After moving to Angola, they have been attending Fairview Missionary Church. They were blessed by their Sunday School group and their small group ministries. Dennis showed joy in all circumstances and lived to serve Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

Dennis suffered a massive heart attack in 1998 and was blessed by the grace of God to have 23 more years with his family and to watch his grandchildren grow up. At the end of his life, he was particularly blessed by the caring Nurses and Doctors at Parkview Heart Institute.
