Dr. Robert Wayne Koenig went home to be with his Savior on Saturday, August 20, 2022, on the 62nd anniversary of his wedding to the late Ruth Evelyn Bush.
He was born on July 7, 1937, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late John Ferdinand Koenig and Virginia Isabelle Baugh. He is survived by his three children: Esther (Lamar) Birge of Snellville, Georgia; John (Andrea) Koenig of Milton, Wisconsin; and Dan (Jennifer) Koenig of Boone, North Carolina; two siblings: sister, Phyllis (Koenig) Hulsey; and the late Jerry Koenig. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Travis, Carissa, Brady, Charity, Kaegan, James and Collin; and three great-grandchildren: Carter, Miles, and Brinley.
Dr. Koenig graduated from Bob Jones University with a Masters of Divinity. He also holds Masters Degrees in Psychology and Education, as well as Doctoral degrees in Theology, Education, and Christian Education.
He began preaching 65 years ago as a youth pastor at Cherry Hills Baptist Church in Springfield, Illinois, and then served as Pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, also in Springfield, for 7 years.
Dr. Koenig served together with his wife, Ruth, for 14 years as Associate Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Anderson, Indiana, where he cofounded and served as administrator of Indiana Christian Academy. They continued their service to the Lord for 35 years as Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Angola, Indiana, where Dr. Koenig also served as administrator of Grace Baptist Academy for 25 years.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2022, at Grace Baptist Church, Angola, Indiana, with Pastor Dave Warren officiating.
Visitation will be from 12 -1 p.m. on Friday, prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow at the Lakeside Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.
