Dr. William G. “Bill” Meyers passed away on April 26, 2024, after a long battle with heart disease.
Bill was born to George and Thelma (Wynn) Meyers on January 19, 1941, in Rochester, PA. He graduated from Midland High School, Pennsylvania in 1957. While most graduates went to work in the steel mills, he went to work for Daniel C. Baker Engineering in Beaver, Pennsylvania which started him down the road to a lifetime of education, engineering and business.
Bill graduated from Tri-State (Trine) University with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. Upon graduating, he enrolled in the University of Notre Dame and graduated with a Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. He later earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
Bill married Rebecca “Becky” Meyers on February 4, 1967.
He worked as a performance engineer in the advanced concepts gas turbine group for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and then returned to his alma mater, Tri-State, where he taught aeronautical and mechanical engineering for the next 30 years.
During his career at Tri-State, he was a full-time professor, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering department chairman, Dean of the School of Engineering and served as acting President. He was proud that he was one of the only students that went on to become President.
Bill’s hobbies included woodworking, hunting and fishing, restoring old Jeeps, timber framing, watching sports, working on almost anything and spending time with his family.
Bill is survived by his wife, Becky Meyers of Angola, Indiana; son Ted (Danielle) Meyers of Fremont, Indiana; daughter, Melissa Meyers of Angola, Indiana; four granddaughters, Emily, Reagan, Sammy, and Karsen and his sister, Sue Graham of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his daughter-in-law, Jenny Meyers; and brother-in-law, Ray Graham.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the University Center at Trine University on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 2-6 p.m.
