Eugene D. Sumney

Eugene D. Sumney, 99, of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Northern Lakes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Angola, Indiana.

Eugene was born on October 26, 1926, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  He was the son of Weldon R. and Esther S. (Goeglein) Sumney.  Eugene graduated from high school and received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Purdue University.

He married the love of his life, Marjorie A. Creager, on August 18, 1951.

Eugene retired from Gelco Industrial Electronics.

He was proud to serve in the United States Army Air Force.  Eugene was a WWII Veteran and a member of the Angola American Legion Post 31.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont, Indiana.  Eugene enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Northeastern Indiana Woodworking Association.  He loved socializing and spending time with family.

Surviving is his brother, William R. Sumney of Angola, Indiana and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 66 years, Marjorie A. Sumney on March 15, 2018; his siblings Wanda Laura Ida Etler and Robert W. Sumney.

Visitation will be from 10-11 AM, Monday, January 5, 2026, at Peace Lutheran Church, 355 E. State Road 120, Fremont, Indiana 46737.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, January 5, 2026, at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Jared E. Rudolph officiating.

Military Honors will be immediately following the services at the church.

Final resting place will be in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
