Eugene Roy Tierney of Angola, Indiana was a native of Barberton, Ohio. He was born on February 10, 1951 and left us too soon on November 10, 2018.
Gene graduated from the former Tri-State University (now Trine) in 1973. He was proud to have many Alpha Sigma Phi brothers. As a college student he loved living in lake cottages and was delighted to return to Lake James to a home he designed for his retirement.
Always a businessman, he worked for General Motors, then Moore Business Forms and retired in 2016 from W.L. Gore Medical Division as Vice President of Strategic Accounts. His business travels as well as his natural enthusiasm for travel introduced him to friends and colleagues worldwide.
Gene is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Hammel Tierney as well as three children and two very special grandsons. These include from Chesapeake, Virginia, Alyssa and Dan Zeno with son Cooper; from West Palm Beach, Florida, Anne Tierney and son Ozzy; and from Denver, Colorado Michael Tierney and Elizabeth. Dan and Susie Hammel and family, Dr. John F. Hammel, Jr. and family and mother-in-law Norma Hammel have all made Angola, Indiana home. Surviving in Ohio are also a sister Norma Lewis and brother Rex Tierney.
At Gene’s request private services will be held. He wishes to be remembered with respect for his talents and abilities and appreciation for his personality. He remains grateful for all his friendships.
Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society.
