Jo Ann (Landis) Barnes, 95, of Angola, Indiana, passed away at her home on Sunday, April 5, 2026.
Born on September 25, 1930, in Rural Steuben County, she was the daughter of Harold and Ruth E. (Williams) Landis. She grew up on her grandfather’s farm outside of Fremont, Indiana with her 6 brothers and 1 sister. Jo Ann helped her dad and grandad milk cows and make hay. She often talked of the large garden the family maintained.
Jo Ann attended Fremont High School, Fremont, Indiana.
Jo Ann married the love of her life, Harry Richard Barnes in 1948 and moved to Crooked Lake in Angola, Indiana where they raised their children, Denny and Becky. They had lots of fun swimming and ice skating at the lake.
After the passing of her husband, she worked at Steuben Printing Company for 31 years before retiring. She had many stories of the fun she had with friends made at work.
Jo Ann was a member of the Women of the Moose for 45 years. She enjoyed a lot of Saturday night dancing at the Moose Lodge.
Jo Ann enjoyed watching IU Basketball and fixing family dinners for birthdays and holidays. Most of all, she loved spending time with family.
Surviving is her granddaughter, Jessica (Matt) Kosmerick of Fremont, Indiana and her siblings, Julie Marteen of Coldwater, Michigan, Paul (Debbie) Landis of Quincy, Michigan, David Landis of Coldwater, Michigan, Martin (Janet) Landis of Quincy, Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Harry Richard Barnes in 1971; children, Dennis Barnes in 2021 and Rebbecca Ann Haddix in 2022, and her siblings, John Landis, Jim Landis and Estle Landis, and nephew Bruce Marteen.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
