John L. Zion Jr., 81, of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
John was born on October 30, 1942, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to John L. Sr. and Helen (Maxson) Zion. He graduated in 1960 from Central High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
John was proud to serve his country for two terms in the United States Army. He served in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient, Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. John was a member and Past Commander of the Fort Wayne American Legion Post 82. He was a former member of the Fort Wayne VFW and a member of AMVETS.
John married Kay Pequignot on September 21, 1991.
He retired from Consolidated Freightways.
John was a member of the Presbyterian Chapel of the Lakes, Angola, Indiana. He was a member and Past Grand Master of the Angola Masonic Lodge and a member and past Parade Marshal for the Provost Shrine Club, Valley of Fort Wayne.
John enjoyed golfing and fishing. He loved to spend time with his family and socializing with his friends.
Surviving is his loving wife of 33 years, Kay Zion of Angola, Indiana; daughters, Dee Ann (Michael) Harmon of Roanoke, Indiana, Debbie (Steve) Glasper of Angola, Indiana, Angie (Scott) Allen of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Dawn (Lain) Larrance of Corpus Christi, Texas, 14 beloved grandchildren, Jacqui, Kayla, Corey, Alexis, Trevor, Justin, Keira, Alyssa, Trent, Hunter, Makenzie, Tanner, Logan and Taven; 11 precious great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren on the way. Also surviving are siblings, Sandy Vanover of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Barbara (Steve) Ramsey of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Roland “Ron” (Jean) Zion of Ocala, Florida and sister-in-law, Linda Zion of Fort Wayne, Indiana and his beloved fur baby, Daisy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William “Bill” Zion.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the Presbyterian Chapel of the Lakes, Angola, Indiana.
Visitation will be from 10-11 AM on Saturday, July 27, 2024, prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at the Presbyterian Chapel of the Lakes Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
