Jonas Steury, Jr.

Jonas Steury Jr., age 57, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away following a brief illness on October 22, 2023, at Tampa General Hospital.

Jonas was born October 1,1966, the son of the late Jonas Steury and Delila (Schwarz) Steury,

in Allen County, Indiana. His early childhood was spent living in Grabill, Indiana among his large extended family. In 1976, he moved with his family to their farm in Pleasant Lake, Indiana where he attended Pleasant Lake Elementary School. Jonas was a good athlete and enjoyed playing little league baseball and basketball throughout high school. One of his most cherished memories was being part of the 1985 Sectional Champion Team coached by the late Steve Grill. His love of sports continued throughout his life as he was an avid IU basketball, Colts and Tampa Bay Bucs fan. He enjoyed attending games as well as watching them on TV.

Jonas was a 1985 graduate of Angola High School and went on to have a variety of jobs throughout his career ranging from sales to construction management. No matter the circumstances, Jonas could usually be seen wearing his signature smile. He was a hard worker and did not like to be idle. Jonas moved to Florida in the early 2000s, making it his home as he preferred the winters there. His last place of employment was in construction management, which he learned from his father. His most recent projects were in the Sarasota and Tampa areas.

Jonas had no children of his own, but enjoyed spending time with his numerous nephews and

nieces and extended young ones in the Steury family. He loved hosting his family and friends in Sarasota and was always sure to show them all of the sites.

Jonas was a man of faith in his heart and attended several churches in Sarasota as he appreciated various styles of worship. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are his siblings: Arlene (Martin) Graber, of Hudson, Indiana, Ada (Menno) Wagler, of Hudson, Indiana, Amos (Marilyn) Steury, of Hamilton, Indiana, Enos (Beth) Steury, of Angola, Indiana, Aaron (Judy) Steury, of Angola, Indiana, Steven (Jody) Steury of Bradenton, Florida, Leroy (Tammy) Steury, of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, Annette (Marcus) Miller, of Pleasant Lake, Indiana; sister-in-law Loretta (Duane) Ulrich, of Benson, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother, Peter J. Steury.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Pleasant Lake Community Church, Pleasant Lake, Indiana with Ryan Kain and Craig Erwin officiating.

Visitation will be from 2-8 PM on Monday, October 30, 2023, at the Pleasant Lake Community Church, Pleasant Lake, Indiana.
