Joseph Herman Faurote Jr., 98, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, formerly of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at StoryPoint North Assisted Living, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born on March 10, 1925, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Joseph H. and Eva May (Webb) Faurote Sr.

Joseph married Carolyn Jean Pede on June 30, 1945.

Joseph was proud to serve his country in the United States Navy.  After returning from his service in the Navy, Joseph worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad.  He found time to earn his bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana and his master’s degree in art from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Joseph taught Art at Leo High School, Village Woods Junior High School and Paul Harding High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he retired in 1984 as Head of the Art Department.

Joseph was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Waterloo, Indiana and the Indiana Teachers Association.

He enjoyed his carpentry work, leather working, creating his art, painting, pottery and jewelry making. Most of all, Joseph, affectionately known as “Poppy” by his loved ones, was a very devoted family man.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his 2 beloved grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. 

Surviving is his daughter, Jeanne C. Thompson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two grandchildren, Dennis L. (Kelly L. Burrow) Thompson Jr. of Noblesville, Indiana and Lori C. (Dan) Caruso of Angola, Indiana; his four great-grandchildren, Natalie (Michael) Barney, Rachel (Luke Mungovan) Caruso, Hunter Thompson and Josephine Thompson and his great great-granddaughter, Mia Carolyn Barney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Mildred, Alice, Frances, Ruth, Walter, Ernie, Charlie, Joanne and Sharon and son-in-law, Dennis L. Thompson Sr.

Funeral Mass will be 11:30 AM on Monday, January 15, 2024, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Angola, Indiana with Father Raul Marroquin will be officiating.

Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 AM, on Monday, January 15, 2024, prior to the service at the church.

Military Honors by the Angola American Legion and the United States Navy Honor Guard will be immediately following the service at the church.

Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, Waterloo, Indiana.

Memorial donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Waterloo, Indiana.
