Katherine Ann (Douglas) Tomenchuk, age 86, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026.
Kay (as she was called) was born in Detroit, MI, first born daughter of John Daniel and Vivian Rosalie (Giacinto) Douglas. She attended Mackenzie High School where she met her, then, future husband, Andrew William Tomenchuk. They married after graduation and moved to Downey, California for their jobs. Kay worked for General Telephone Company as an administrator, and her husband, Andy, worked for the sheriff’s office in information technology.
Kay so loved the California lifestyle, climate, scenery and ambiance. She spent time with her friends enjoying the many restaurant cuisines of California and traveling around Europe. She received great joy in the many dogs she owned and loved during her lifetime. After her husband’s death, and as time passed, Kay moved to Auburn, Indiana to be close to her family where she lived until her death.
Kay is survived by her niece, Katy (Robert) O’Neill who lovingly cared for her. Katy greatly admired Kay’s strength as a woman and making others feel special in simple ways. Katy said “she loved Aunt Kay and will always hold a special place in her heart for her.” Kay’s nephew, Mark Douglas, Jr. was also instrumental in her care along with their parents, (Kay’s brother) Mark Douglas (Kathleen). Kay is also survived by her other brother John Douglas (Terri) and her sister, Sarah (Howard) Hamerink and many loving nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
