Kathy Sue Stayner, 69, of Angola, Indiana, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at her home.
Kathy was born on February 9, 1956, in LaGrange, Indiana to Donald O. and Helen “Jeanette” (Troyer) Gochenaur. She graduated from Prairie Heights High School.
Kathy married the love of her life, Melvin G. Stayner, Sr., on July 23, 1989. She managed several Convenience Stores locally and was part-owner of a Subway Restaurant.
Kathy and Melvin held a booth at the Steuben County Farmer’s Market for over 20 years. She was very family oriented and enjoyed family gatherings. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving is her mother, Helen “Jeanette” Troyer of Auburn, Indiana, her loving husband of 36 years, Melvin G. Stayner Sr. of Angola, Indiana; her children, Eric Melchi of Orland, Indiana, Lance Melchi of Angola, Indiana, Melvin (Michele) Stayner Jr. of Angola, Indiana, Chad (Stacy Spornhauer) Stayner of Kendallville, Indiana, Michael Stayner of Florida and Billie Jo Sanderson of Florida. Also surviving are her 5 beloved grandchildren, several precious great-grandchildren and her sister, Cynthia Gochenaur of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald O. Gochenaur.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1-4 PM, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the old Flint Gun shop,
7595 W. 50 N., Angola, Indiana 46703.
Final resting place will be in Jackson Prairie Cemetery, Orland, Indiana when she will be reunited with her husband.
