Laura “Ny” Nytella Schalk, 85, of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Laura was born in rural Steuben County on the family farm close to Metz, Indiana on August 6, 1939, to Rosco Lorenzo and Doris Lola (Jordan) Dunham. She was in the last class to graduate from Metz High School in 1957.
Laura married the love of her life on April 5, 1958, at the Metz Christian Church.
She worked at Angola State Bank for two years, and then at First National Bank of Angola for 30 years retiring in October of 1999. She also worked in the office with her husband at the Moose Lodges in Clearwater, Florida and Lafayette, Indiana.
Laura was a lifetime member of the Angola Moose Auxiliary since 1970. She was past member of the Angola Fireman’s Auxiliary, Steuben County Business & Professional Women’s Club and Sigma Phi Gamma.
Surviving are her children, Barbara Ann (Steve) Cleverly of Angola, Indiana and Mitchel Louis of New York, New York; her beloved granddaughter, Jasmine Cleverly and her two precious great-grandchildren, Grayson Wilson and Payton Wilson. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Patsy Dunham of Angola, Indiana; nieces and nephews, LeAnn (Bobby) Dunham-Boots of Angola, Indiana, Vince (Cindy) Dunham of Angola, Indiana, Julie (Jody) May of Albion, Michigan and Dana (Kyle) Ulrich of LaGrange, Indiana. Along with several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 52 years, George Louis Schalk, granddaughter, April Cleverly; brother, Larry Dunham and nephew Ross Dunham.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a late date.
Final resting place will be in South Scott Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.
