Monica Lynn Johnson, 60, of Angola, Indiana, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Monica was born on April 11, 1965, in Plainwell, Michigan to Ted LaVerne and Diane Rae (Forney) Colwell.
She graduated from Vicksburg High School, Vicksburg, Michigan in 1983.
Monica moved to Angola to raise her children. When the time came, she did not hesitate to move to Florida to take care of her mother, her best friend. She eventually moved back to Angola, Indiana to be closer to her grandchildren.
Monica enjoyed dancing, singing karaoke, and listening to Conway Twitty. She also enjoyed playing dice, card games and bowling on the WII. She was a huge Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady Fan. Monica enjoyed the beach; it didn’t matter if it was the ocean or the gulf or a local lake.
Monica was a friend to everyone she met and lived her life on her own terms.
Surviving is her life-long partner, Frank Steffac of Angola, Indiana; her children, Suzie Rae (Zack) Lancaster of Angola, Indiana, Roxanne Kay (Sam) Carroll of Angola, Indiana, Jessica Fay Carroll of Angola, Indiana and Ted Alan Johnson of Union City, Michigan And her 8 beloved grandchildren, Janessa, James, Jace, Michael, Micah, Mila, RaeLynn and Charlie. Also surviving are her siblings, Susan Naomi (Jeffrey) Myler of Gordon, Nebraska, Mark Adam (Sarah) Colwell of Auburn, Indiana and Richard Weaver Jr. of Allegan, Michigan; many cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Neices and Nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted LaVerne and Diane Rae Colwell.
Memorial Services will be 6:00 PM, Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Weicht Funeral Home, Angola, Indiana with visitation from 5-6 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.
