Nicholas Colby Gressley, known as Nick, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 39. He was born on April 4, 1984, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and in his final years, he found solace and joy in rural living.
Nick was a man of diverse interests and talents. He reveled in the simplicity of life, relishing mushroom hunting, tending to his garden, and mastering the art of cast iron refurbishment. His passion for knives was unrivaled, dedicating time to collecting, sharpening, and caring for his tools of the trade. He had a keen sense of humor and was an avid follower of satirical current events, with John Oliver being a favorite. He also had unwavering support for the Chicago Bears.
In his last months, he immersed himself in coin collecting, meticulously examining coins for unique details and rare mints. An insatiable learner, he devoured podcasts on a wide array of topics, from history and cooking to music and beyond.
Nick's role as a beloved uncle was one he cherished, imparting wisdom on magic, knot tying, puzzles, vintage video games, Marvel comics, and the vast world of Star Wars.
He found his true happiness in the countryside alongside his girlfriend, Lindsay Burk, and their pampered feline companion, Schrödinger.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Powell-Martinez, stepfather Juan Martinez, siblings Ashlee Gressley, Rosie Martinez, Johnny Martinez, and Jesse (Ehiliana) Martinez. Nick was preceded in death by his father, Dwayne (Dewey) E. Gressley.
A celebration of Nicholas Colby Gressley's life will be held on Friday, October 6th, 2023, from 5-7 pm at The 6 on James, 4080 N 300 W, Angola, Indiana.
