Pauline Throop Obituary

Pauline Beth Throop, 97, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 at her home in Angola, Indiana.

She was born on March 13, 1921 in Coldwater, Michigan to Roy C. and Alta M. (Houlton) Bailey.  She moved to Fremont, Indiana when she was five years old.  Pauline graduated from Fremont High School in 1939.

When she was growing up, Pauline worked at the local five and dime store, a department store and was an assistant bookkeeper at the Fremont Hardware Store.  

Pauline married Cleon L. Throop on September 14, 1940 in the Clear Lake home of the groom’s Uncle, Rev. Walter Throop.  

In 1941 she and Cleon moved to Battle Creek where she worked at the Security National Bank.  In 1944 they decided to move to Angola and purchase the Eggleston Flower Shop and Greenhouses in Angola and renamed the business, Throop Florist. They sold the business in 1981.

Pauline was a member of the Angola United Methodist Church and played the piano for several years during Sunday worship services.  

She was a member of the Angola Women of the Moose, member and past-president of the Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority.  She co-founded the Angola Jaycee Wive’s club where she was the first president.  She was also a member of several Bridge clubs and of the Weekly Lunch Bunch.

Pauline and Cleon were snowbirds and enjoyed 36 years of retirement in Tidevue Estates, Ellenton, Florida.  During her time there, she played piano and organ for many Saturday morning gatherings at the hall as well as Sunday evening Vespers.

Surviving are her son Thomas (Carla) Throop of Stevensville, Montana and two nephews, Dr. Greg (Rebecca) Barry and Roger (Anna) Barry both of Fremont.  Also surviving are two step-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 17, 2018 at the Weicht Funeral Home, Angola, Indiana with Douglas Deller officiating.

Visitation will be from 2-4 PM, Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the funeral home.

Final resting place will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
