Richard Dale Somerlott, 79, of Angola, Indiana, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at his home.
Richard was born on September 7, 1945, in Angola, Indiana to Dale R. and Inez Waneta (Alwood) Somerlott. He graduated from Angola High School in 1963.
Richard was proud to serve his country in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War.
Richard married the love of his life, Carol Ann Prough, on July 13, 1968.
Even though Richard had been a mechanic for the Steuben County Highway Department and retired in 2010, he had been a lifelong Farmer. He raised Holstein Steers and produced wheat, corn, soybeans and maple syrup.
Richard was incredibly involved with his church. He was a member, Past Chairman and Past President of the Board for Metz Church of Christ in Angola, Indiana.
He was a former superintendent of the Small Engine Repair Project for the Steuben County 4-H Club and served on the Steuben County Farm Services Board.
Richard was a Board member for the Steuben County Farm Bureau were he enjoyed helping with the annual breakfasts that they put on.
Richard and Carol were instrumental in starting the Angola Future Farmers of America Toy Show in Steuben County.
Richard enjoyed going to farm auctions and watching NASCAR, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and animals.
Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Carol Ann Somerlott of Angola, Indiana; his son, Timothy Somerlott of Angola, Indiana and three brothers, Ned Somerlott, of Angola, Indiana, David Somerlott of Angola, Indiana and Alvin (Candy) Somerlott of Columbia City, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and her husband, Donna J. and Jay Gear and two sisters-in-law, Kimberly Somerlott and Shirley Somerlott.
Visitation will be from 4-7 PM, Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Weicht Funeral Home, Angola, Indiana and from 10-11 AM, Friday, April 4, 2025, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Weicht Funeral Home, Angola, Indiana with Pastor Michael L. Hesterman officiating.
Burial with Military Honors by the Angola American Legion Post 31 Honor Guard and the United States Army Honor Guard will be immediately following the funeral services at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Angola, Indiana.
