Stephen “Captain Steve” E. Berg, born October 15, 1946, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Steve was the devoted father of Kim Baugh, Gretchen Mueller, Sheila Berkeypile, and Denise Geary, and the beloved husband of Penny Berg, with whom he shared 39 years of marriage.
He was a proud and loving grandfather to Garrett, Jesse, Karleigh, Turner, Demi, and Jordan, and a cherished great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
Born in Richmond, Indiana, Steve graduated from Indiana University South Bend with a bachelor’s degree in business. He spent more than 20 years as a salesman with Pella and took great pride in his work, particularly within the construction industry.
Steve had a deep love for travel, the outdoors, and lake life. He spent many cherished years living on Lake Wawasee in Syracuse, Indiana, a place that truly felt like home to him. Known affectionately as “Captain Steve” to many, boating was his greatest passion. Countless weekends were spent on Lake Wawasee, soaking up the sun, navigating the water, and enjoying life to the fullest.
Steve will be remembered for his fun-loving spirit, quick sense of humor, warm smile, and the joy he brought to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. For more information you may contact deniseageary1@gmail.com.
