Steven Walter Obituary

Steven J. Walter, 54, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Monday, April 13, 2026, in Ashley, Indiana.

Steve was born on May 16, 1971, to Ronald and Janet (Lundie) Walter in Caro, Michigan. Before enlisting in the United States Air Force, he graduated from Angola High School in 1989.

He later married his wife of 24 years, Tara (Mills) Walter, on October 6, 2001.

Steve retired from his military career with the Air Force after 21.5 years of service. He was on active duty from January 1990 to June 1998. During those eight years, Steve was stationed in California, Nebraska, Michigan, South Korea, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, among other locations.

The remainder of his service was with the Air National Guard in the 110th Fighter Wing in Battle Creek, Michigan, until he retired honorably on March 5, 2011, as a Technical Sergeant. Throughout his service, Steve made lifelong friends.

During his civilian career, Steve was a proud member of Teamsters Local 414, working as a car hauler for 20 years.

Steve enjoyed tinkering with small motors, snowmobiling, riding four-wheelers, spending time with his friends and family, and target shooting. What Steve loved most was being a father to his three children. He was a very active supporter of all of his kids’ passions and dreams. His children remember him most for how easy it was to laugh and talk with him.

Surviving are his wife, Tara Walter of Ashley, Indiana; his three children, Morgan (Dray) Walter of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Kaleb Walter of Ashley, Indiana, and Addison Walter of Ashley, Indiana; and two beloved grandchildren, Ares and Brielle.

Also surviving are Steve’s father, Ron Walter of Fort Wayne, Indiana formerly of Angola, Indiana, and three siblings: Elizabeth (Terry) Shannon of Kuna, Idaho; Julie (Reginald) Parrish of Glendale, Arizona; and Theodore (James) Renegar-Walter of Cathedral City, California.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Walter of Belleview, Florida, and his brother-in-law, Reginald Parrish of Glendale, Arizona.
