Vera Delores DeLancey, 91, of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at her home.
Born October 2, 1934, in Corunna, Indiana, she was the daughter of Elvester “Al” and Ruth (Wells) Curtland. Vera attended Flint High School, Steuben County, Indiana.
Vera married the love of her life, Robert L. DeLancey Sr., on October 2, 1950.
She worked most of her life on the farm alongside her husband and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother.
Vera was a member of Fairview Missionary Church, Angola, Indiana.
She enjoyed sewing and going to garage sales. She had bowled on several bowling leagues through the years and was an amazing pitcher on her family’s slow pitch softball teams. She was known to be the best baby holder and babysitter by her family. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Surviving are her sons, Robert “Bob” (Debra) DeLancey Jr. of Angola, Indiana, Tony (Andrea) DeLancey of Angola, Indiana, Charlie DeLancey of Angola, Indiana and Rocky (Holly) DeLancey of Angola, Indiana; daughters, Penny (Alan) Rockenbaugh of Orland, Indiana, Roberta “Robbie” (Stephen) Groh of Orland, Indiana, Patricia “Patty” (Steve) Bireley of Angola, Indiana, Sherry DeLancey of Wolcottville, Indiana, Tina (Rick) Caudill of Angola, Indiana and Pam (Kevin) Wolfe of Pleasant Lake, Indiana; 30 beloved grandchildren, 66 amazing great-grandchildren and 30 (with 2 on the way) precious great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Lorraine Hoard, of Maryland, Irene (LeRoy) Wisel of Fremont, Indiana and Louise Porter of Angola, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Rose Curtland of Nevada Mills, Indiana along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Robert L. DeLancey Sr. on April 6, 2001; brothers, Floyd Curtland, Ray Curtland and Rick “Woody” Curtland and sister, Viola R. Friend.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Monday, May 4, 2026, at Fairview Missionary Church, Angola, Indiana with Pastor Austin Gilliland officiating.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1:00 PM, prior to the service on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the church.
Burial will be immediately following the services in Lake Gage Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.
Memorial donations may be made in Vera’s memory to Fairview Missionary Church, Angola, Indiana.
