Wava Oberlin Obituary

Wava Irene Oberlin, 98, of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Drews Place in Coldwater, Michigan.

Wava was born on November 16, 1925, in Steuben County, Indiana to Leon and Bertha (Hutchins) Brown, the youngest of 6 children. She graduated from Angola High School in Angola, Indiana, where she met the love of her life, Baxter D Oberlin. Wava worked at GE in Ft. Wayne during World War II for the war effort.

After Baxter’s release from the Army, they were married on September 14, 1946.

She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Angola, Indiana, Psi Iota XI, a Cookie Cutter club, Angola Garden Club and the Angola American Legion Auxiliary, Post 31.  She was famous for her pie baking, wonderful cooking, and her love for gardening and family.  She kept a beautiful rose garden and passed on an appreciation for growing one’s own food to all her family. She was a wonderful wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, and “best aunt ever”.

Surviving are her children, Jeffery (Dinah) Oberlin of Elmhurst, Illinois and Lake James, Angola, Indiana, and Patricia Oberlin (Jim Alles) of Snow Lake, Fremont, Indiana. Also surviving are her 3 beloved grandchildren, Eric Oberlin, Ross (Michele) Oberlin and Alex Oberlin and 3 precious great-grandchildren, Lucy, Jojo and Wade.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 56 years, Baxter D Oberlin on December 29, 2002; sisters, Margaret Crabill, Florence Staley, Anna Winsemann; brothers, Kenneth Brown and Leon Brown Jr.; and a granddaughter in law, Julianne Oberlin, on April 17, 2020.

Private Burial has taken place in Mount Zion Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.

Memorial Services are pending at a later date.
