Betty J. Cope Sumney, 81, of Angola, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012 at Lakeland Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Angola, Indiana. She retired from Ingersall-Rand of Angola, Indiana. She was a member of the Fairview Missionary Church, Angola, Indiana; attended Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont, Indiana; was a Big Sister, volunteered for the Cameron Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Angola and was a member of the Red Hat Ladies. She was born May 7, 1931 to Harry and Esma (Nodine) Vaughn in Steuben County, Indiana. She married William R. "Bill" Sumney on March 3, 2007. Mrs. Sumney is survived by her husband William R. "Bill" Sumney of Angola; one step-son Ross and Tami Sumney of Angola, two step-daughters Lisa and Kevin Stockwell of Hudson, Barb and Steve Schroeder of Zionsville; one brother Harry Vaughn of Marietta, GA; one sister Dessie Shackleford of Montgomery, Michigan; 2 grandchildren Shawn Cope of Fremont; Christine Brandanger of Minnesota; three step-grandchildren Kyle Stockwell, Laura Stockwell and Heidi Schroeder and one great-granddaughter Amanda Cope. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Delbert Cope on June 16, 2004; one son Jerry Cope, two daughters Linda Brandanger and Cynthia "Sam" Junot; one grand daughter Daniel Brandanger; four sisters and 10 brothers. Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, July 27, 2012 at Fairview Missionary Church with Rev. Norman Fuller and Pastor Wayne Berkesch officiating. Burial will be in Jamestown Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Visitation will be 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Fairview Missionary Church, Angola. Memorials may be given to Fairview Missionary Church, Angola, Indiana, Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont, Indiana and Cameron Hospice and Home Health, Angola.

Betty will be remembered as such a wonderful, caring, giving lady. She brought much joy to many lives. Amanda has said how she always told her how proud she was of her. Amanda misses her dearly. Prayers for her and the family in dealing with the loss of a great person. Heaven has received a true gift.

Rest in peace Betty, You were my friend , neighbor and co-worker. I drive by your former house everydayand I still can see you out working in your yard. You were my insperation, we had a lot of fun together. I will surely miss you. With all the tragedy in your life you still thought of others, I was so hoping for years of happiness with Bill. Betty was loved by many at work.she always was kind to everyone and loved her family and friends.Always kind,considerate,compassionate.She was a beautiful person,inside and out.It is times like this that we realize how short life is.Rest in peace Betty.

Mom, Robin, and I were very sorry to hear of Aunt Betty's passing. I was thinking about the family today and the last conversation I had with Aunt Dessie and found this site online to send our condolances. May she rest in peace.
