Marie Irene Lower Graham,95, of Angola passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 in Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, Angola. She was born near Waterloo to Merlin and Goldie (Bowers) Lower on December 1, 1916. She grew up on a farm south of Pleasant Lake and learned her talents of hard work, sewing and cooking from her mother. She was Valedictorian of Pleasant Lake High School class of 1934. Marie married Marion Graham on August 14, 1938 at the Chapel of the Garden in Angola by Rev. John Humphries. During WWII Marie and Marion both worked on government projects in Upper Michigan, where they loved the outdoors and fishing. They went on many fishing vacations there in Michigan and Wisconsin for many years. Marie worked at several jobs over the years, as a Railway Express Agent and at the Family Center in the fabric department. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many things over the years. She was a dedicated homemaker in the "old school" style. She always had a home cooked meal ready and took care of her family. The Angola Methodist Church was very important to her. She was a member and enjoyed working with the ladies on dinners, sewing and ladies groups. She was a member of the Lydia Circle and considered those ladies her closest friends. She wasn't able to attend church in the latter years, but studied her Bible devotions every day. Marie and Marion built their home on Oakwood Street in 1938 where she lived until a few years ago. She then spent several years at Cameron Woods in Angola and most recently in Lakeland Nursing Center in Angola. Marie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law James and Beth Graham of Overland Park, Kansas; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law Jennifer and Chris Plotz; one grandson Jason Graham and six great-grandchildren Jacob, Wesley, Brandon, Joey, Sammy and Wynne. She was preceded in death by her Parents; her husband Marion Graham on November 8, 1992 and three brothers Dale Lower, Clair Lower and Ross Lower. She was loved by all who knew her and alsways had a smile on her face. We will miss her. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Weicht Funeral Home, Angola with Pastor Tim Terrell officiating. Entombment will be at 1:00 PM in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Angola United Methodist Church, Angola, Indiana.

Jim my prayers are with you and your family. Your mother was a dear lady who I remember as always smiling and being welcoming to the "kids" in the neighborhood. God's Peace, Sarah

To the Graham Family, We have known Marie for many years and I visited her in both nursing homes and at Cameron Woods. She was a dear lady and always had a smile. I tried to get to the funeral home this morning but could not get up the hill by our house as it was just too slick. You'll all be in our prayers today. Embrace the memories of your mother and Angola! Dick & Judy Ruselink

I enjoyed my time in visiting with Marie at Lakeland Nursing Home and saw her interest in what was happening at Angola United Methiodist Church and in the community. She enjoyed ice cream treats and gladly shiowed pictures of her grandchildren and talked of weekly phone calls with her son. I will miss our visits.

I will always treasure fond memories of my Aunt Marie. She was a strong woman who was a great cook and a devoted wife and mother. I remember visiting her family as a young girl, and enjoying a wonderful home-cooked meal--with a delicious dessert! She's with the Lord now...and at peace. My heartfelt prayers are with her son, Jim, and his family.
