Robert Sam Olinger, 91, of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in Northern Lakes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Angola, Indiana.
He was born August 18, 1923 in Butler, Indiana to Samuel and Nilo (Smith) Olinger.
He married Betty Ruth Hamman on December 31, 1947.
He was a member of the Pleasant Lake United Methodist Church and Angola Masonic Lodge.
He served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the Angola American Legion Post 31.
He was a barber for 65 years. He and his wife helped with the Circle Hill Cemetery in Angola, Indiana.
Robert is survived by one sister Ruth Osborn of Pendleton, IN; three nephews David Hamman of Melbourne, FL, Mike Hamman of Satellite Beach, FL, Robert Cooper of Newport News, VA and John Osborn of Pendleton, IN; a cousin Maxine Poynter of Kendallville, IN. He was also survived by his friends William D. and Virginia Ralston of Pleasant Lake, IN; William E. and Susan Ralston of Angola, IN; Barbara Hoolihan of Pleasant Lake, IN and Karen and Larry Jack of Pleasant Lake, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Ruth Olinger on August 25, 2013, his sister Helen Cooper of Newport News, VA and a niece Katherine Osborn.
Services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Weicht Funeral Home, Angola, Indiana with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Pastor John Boyanowski will be officiating.
Burial will follow with Military Honors by the Angola American Legion Post 31 in Butler Cemetery, Butler, Indiana.
Memorials may be given in Robert’s name to the Pleasant Lake Methodist Church’s Food Bank.
