My sincere sympathy to all of Larry‘s family. I had the pleasure of getting to know Larry while cooperating with him on several drainage water related conservation projects. He was a pleasure to work. Also open to trying new ways to improve the water quality providing adequate drainage for county taxpayers. He will indeed be missed. God rest his soul!

I am so sorry. Larry was really like a brother to me and my brother Dan. Every good thought I have of high school he was involved in. In cross country there was no better teammate. Some of my fondest memories of my life are of Larry, my brother Dan and me running up and down the hills at Cold Springs Golf Course our senior year. Larry never ran bad. He always had our back and we had his. 2 weeks ago Dan was home from Oregon and we went up and talked to Larry. He was always very busy and usually we might get 4-5 minutes, but that day he said, "Come on over here" and we went to another room and for over 30 minutes we talked about those times. People don't remember that he was All Conference Cross Country, Basketball and Baseball his senior year. He was an amazingly gifted athlete and a fierce competitor. I believe he averaged over 20 points a game in basketball his senior year. But sports aside, more importantly he was my friend. A lot of the best times of my life during my years at HHS are directly because of Larry. I will miss him. Knowing him and calling him my friend and teammate was an honor for me. Larry was a good person.

Larry was a great friend and teammate in high school, we've logged alot of miles together. As a competitor we pushed each other neither one of us wanted to get beaten in a race by the other. But that was yesterday all fond memories. Doyle and I went up to see Larry on the 18th of September we talked briefly about our dam issue and of course those good o'l days. Doyle and Larry did most of the talking while l just sat there thinking about how fast time has gone. Here we are the 3 of us now in our 60's. Larry told Doyle and l about the new house he and his wife were building. So may plans and dreams. When we were leaving l was telling Larry how I really wanted to stay until the culvert at the dam got dug out but I simply ran out of time. Larry's sudden passing reminds me that time is precious and living our lives to the fullest loving families, building those dream homes. Our time is slowly yet quickly running out. Rest in peace my friend you ran and finished an incredible race in this game we call life.

Dear Aunt Kelly,
Uncle Larry was such a great guy. I remember spending time on the golf course as a kid. Larry would play basketball with me where the golfers dropped the carts off when they were finished. He would let me help spray the golf carts off and drive them down to the garage to put them away for the night. He helped give me some of my best childhood memories that I will always cherish. I'm very sorry for your loss.

To the Gilbert Family and Friends,

On behalf of the Indiana County Surveyors Association, please accept our condolences. Any of us who have had the pleasure of working with Larry over the years are deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Larry was one of the most respectful people that you could ask for, and was very much respected by his peers. I personally have had the pleasure of working with Larry not only as a County Surveyor, but also on the MRBC board, as well as projects that were with the Nature Conservancy. Words cannot express how much he will be missed.

You will be in all of our thoughts and prayers during this time of need.

Kelly and Sarah and family, I cannot tell you how much sorrow I have been feeling for all of you. Too early, and too sudden. Steuben County has lost a wealth of knowledge. But, that is nothing in comparison to what you have lost. I will miss him, and his smile. Please know that God does not give us more than He knows that we can handle. The burden is so heavy right now for you. You will keep him in your heart and minds forever, and I pray that the burden will ease.

So sorry to hear this news. Larry was a friend and a great leader in our community. He was respected around the state as a conservationist while also managing water. He will be missed terribly but he has left a wonderful mark on Steuben county. The Nature Conservancy, that I am state director for considered him a great partner and friend of conservation! Our sympathy to the entire family.
